Season 4 of ‘Dallas’ continues apace, and, to directly contradict the spotlight review above, is most certainly the equal of, and in many places, surpasses the very high standards place down in Season 3.

Okay, so we all know who shot J.R. I won’t spoil it for the two-and-a-half people left on the planet who do not know, but with the first four episodes done and dusted, there’s a wealth of current situations and characters and mishaps waiting to be introduced to the unhappiest family in Texas.

New sons, unusual mothers and recent (and mature!) wives are unbiased for starters: Season 4 also brings us resurrections, infidelities, engineered foreign revolutions, oil terrorism, murders and more high-octane drama than you can shake an oily stick at. The more standout recurring characters near in the shape of Susan Howard as Donna Culver and Leigh McCloskey as Mitch Cooper (the whiniest chauvanist since… …ever!), and the resident cast is every bit as watchable and lovable as before.

While Season 4 of ‘Dallas’ does gain noteworthy of the previous high standards of writing and acting, there’s a decidedly more ‘soapy’ air on indicate – although nowhere as uncommon as ‘Dynasty’, there are sure situations, such as the hasty deterioration of Bobby and Pam’s marriage, or the reintroduction of one of Sue Ellen’s traditional flames, that hint at the beginnings of that gloriously escapist behemoth known as 80′s Prime Time. Unruffled, it’s a very subtle shift, and this isn’t a complaint; rather, the Ewings are changing for the better.

All in all, Season 4 of Dallas is truly good. In addition, audio/visual quality is, as ever, wonderful, and the extra ‘Return to Southfork’ documentary, though obviously and painfully scripted, is a nice touch – particularly to peruse impartial how extraordinarily well Miss Linda Grey has passe!

Highly recommended, now PLEASE won’t y’all release the rest of the reveal??

Season Four of the sinfully-good CBS-TV nighttime, prime-time soap opera “Dallas” came out on DVD on January 24th, 2006, in a nice-looking 4-Disc area, which contains all 23 full-length, fourth-year episodes (running about 49 minutes each) .

This station, as most Dallas fans surely realize, has within it the episode that resolves the “Who Shot J.R.? ” record arc. It’s episode #4 of this season (“Who Done It? “), which first aired on Friday night, November 21st, 1980. And it looks unbiased tall on this DVD (as do all the other episodes as well) . The video quality here, like the earlier DVD sets of “Dallas” achieve out by Warner Home Video, looks A-OK to me.

Prior to the much-anticipated airing of “Who Done It? ” in behind November of 1980 (which was delayed in getting aired by about two months due to an actors’ strike in Hollywood that shut down production of all TV series), it had been exactly eight months since TV viewers had seen the season-ending cliffhanger where we watch J.R. Ewing being filled with hot lead from the gun of an unseen and unknown would-be murderer.

That meant eight long months of guesswork engaged in by fans of the series, trying to figure out who plugged John Ross Ewing II. I can vividly assume the media build-up to the “Who Done It? ” episode in 1980. It was something else. Everyone was talking “Dallas” and speculating as to who might have been the gunman (or gunwoman) . And there wasn’t a shortage of “suspects” either, moral on up to Miss Ellie Ewing, J.R.’s enjoy mother! Several people notion Ellie had had enough of her eldest son’s backstabbing shenanigans and had decided to steal matters (and a execute weapon) into her bear hands.

Anyway, those months leading up to the substantial cliffhanger-resolution 4th indicate of the year were truly something to sight. So it’s no wonder that the “Who Done It? ” episode managed to fracture all kinds of television records. 41,470,000 homes (“households”) were tuned to “Dallas” that Friday night in 1980 to search for who it was that tried to demolish Mr. Ewing, shattering the previous television ratings’ relate (held at that time by the last episode of “The Fugitive” in 1967) for the highest-rated and most-watched single TV program in history.*

* = Total number of sincere “viewers” watching “Dallas” on 11/21/1980, however, was great higher than the 41-Million-plus figure previously mentioned. From data I’ve gathered on the Internet, there were approximately 83,000,000 people watching “Dallas” that night in the United States. (Although some sources list this “Total Number Of People Watching” stat as greater than 90-Million.)

Another tantalizing statistic that surrounds the airing of the “Who Done It? ” episode is the fact that commercial advertisements that were seen on CBS-TV that night cost those sponsors $500,000 per puny. And, remember, that was many, many years ago, in 1980. Whew! J.R. would no doubt be very proud of those monetary stats!

Of course, that half-a-million-dollars-per-minute TV ad cost, circa 1980, is dwarfed by some similar 21st-century stats….e.g., the average cost for a 30-second TV position during the annual Spruce Bowl telecast reached a staggering $2.4-Million (as of 2005) .

This fourth year of “Dallas”, which is considered by many precise “Dallas” fans to really be fair the third (burly) season of the point to, in addition to containing some of the most-memorable episodes from the whole series, also marks the unlit departure of Jim Davis (who played “Jock Ewing”, the always-gruff and no-nonsense head of the Ewing family and Ewing Oil empire) .

Jim Davis died at the age of 71 on April 26, 1981, which was honest days before this fourth-season’s cliffhanging finale (“Ewing-Gate”) was aired on CBS. Jim’s/Jock’s presence was indeed missed by this writer during the subsequent seasons of “Dallas”. And while the character of “Clayton Farlow” (played by the unhurried Howard Keel) was a fair advantageous character in his maintain apt, there was impartial no replacing Jock Ewing. Couldn’t be done.

As fate would have it, Keel passed away on the loyal day that the “Dallas Reunion” special originally aired on network TV in early November 2004. He was 85 years former. That very Reunion special is also included in its entirety in this DVD state.

This DVD aggregation contains four double-sided discs, which are held in two overlapping disc trays within a smaller and more-compact Digipak case than was faded for the two earlier DVD collections. The footprint (spine width) of this 4th-season pack is a mere 3/4 of an rush.

When all four discs are removed from the two DVD-holding compartments, an impressive-looking underlying image emerges beneath the plastic trays — a represent of a “smoking gun”. A nice packaging touch.

There is no booklet included here in the Season-Four position. And the slimmer packaging reduces the amount of room for episode info…so there are no detailed (or even non-detailed) episode descriptions to be found on the innards of the box. The episode titles and airdates are listed however.

The outer slipcase box features photos of three of the main cast members (J.R., Pam, and Bobby), with the Dallas city skyline in the background. And while these three pics on the front cloak are cut-and-paste jobs, I contemplate the shroud looks very nice.

And I fair esteem the amusing blurb on the benefit of the outer box here too. A part of it reads — “Who shot J.R.? One of the men he cheated in business? One of the women he cheated in admire? Or is the culprit closer to home: a member of the gargantuan, downhearted Ewing family who figured to cleave the weasel population of Texas by one? ”

Excellent! That packaging verbiage deserves a enormous ol’ “LOL” too! :-)

Bonus Feature:

There are no Audio Commentaries included here, but the folks at Warner Home Video have included a really nice extra bonus item on Side B of Disc #4 of this site — “Dallas Reunion: The Return To Southfork”.

First seen on CBS on November 7th, 2004, this 2-hour Reunion special (87 minutes on the DVD, without the new commercials) was watched by more than 9-Million people during its initial airing. It ranked an impressive #20 in the Nielsen ratings for that week.

The Reunion Special is a very fun program to perceive, with many current “Dallas” cast members (including Larry Hagman, Patrick Duffy, Linda Gray, and Victoria Necessary) getting together at the staunch “Southfork” Ranch in Texas to allotment their individual and collective remembrances of the TV series (which ended its noteworthy 357-episode network bustle in 1991) .

The “Reunion” is filled with cast-member anecdotes, bloopers, behind-the-scenes footage, and more valid stuff too. A nifty itsy-bitsy portion of the Reunion program centers its attention on the “Best Dallas Cliffhangers”. And there’s some absorbing unaired footage that was filmed during the “Who Shot J.R.? ” frenzy, which includes scenes of various “suspects” firing the notorious shot heard ’round the TV world.

Some of the outtake/blooper footage is hilarious. I especially like the outtake which has a frustrated Barbara Bel Geddes (“Miss Ellie”) unleashing an unmentionable invective as she blows a line of dialogue. The curse word has been “bleeped out” by the CBS censors, but it’s detached humorous anyhow, because you know Barbara uttered something impish. :)

All-in-all, this Dallas Reunion is a very first-rate and exquisite explore help at one of TV’s pioneering “nighttime soaps”, a note that entered American living rooms for 14 consecutive years, spanning parts of three separate decades.

Some Season-Four DVD Specs:

VIDEO — These 23 episodes are displayed in their native Full-Frame ratio (1.33:1), as first aired in 1980-1981. The 2004 Reunion special is also presented in 1.33:1 Full-Frame, as originally seen.

AUDIO — Dolby Digital 1.0 Mono for all episodes (English only) . The Retrospective Documentary includes a DD 2.0 Stereo soundtrack.

SUBTITLES — In English, French, and Spanish. No subtitles are provided for the Reunion special though.

CHAPTERS? — Yes. Each episode is divided into 6 chapters, and the originally-aired “previews” are intact prior to the main titles on all episodes. The “Next Week On Dallas” trailers at the destroy of each note are not included, however. (Note: The Reunion special is not broken up into individual chapters.)

MENUS — The S.4 Menus are objective like those from the earlier “Dallas” sets, featuring the main-title theme music playing on a continuous loop while the Main Menu is on hide. Sub-Menus can be accessed for “Episodes”, “Languages”, and “Special Features”. Plus, there’s a “Play” option on the Main Menu too. Selecting that item will “Play All” of the three episodes on that side of the disc without interruption. (There are objective two episodes on the “B” side of the last disc, however — plus the lengthy Reunion documentary.)

The Main Menu on each disc and side features a recount of the Ewing family….although Jock isn’t in the record. I can’t figure out the reason for this blatant omission, because Jock was collected in the cast during this season. Donna, Ray, and Cliff are shown on the Main Menu, but not Jock. That’s a shame, too, because Jock should certainly be included in a “family” type portrait (circa Season 4; ’80-’81) .

——————

This Season-Four DVD collection of “Dallas” is an valuable rob for those who already have Season #3. I cannot imagine having one without the other. Those two “Dallas” seasons go together like hand-and-glove.

To be able to believe the forever-popular “Who Done It? ” episode (and the eps. that lead up to it) in a handsome, digitally-preserved format, as we eye here, for a very reasonable notice stamp, is something that virtually all “Dallas” fans should be pleased about.

And, on top of that, with a feature-length documentary program tacked on to this DVD situation as a bonus, it makes “Dallas: The Complete Fourth Season” an even better ‘steal of a deal’. I’m not too certain that even the scheming J.R. Ewing himself could have wangled a better deal for this DVD package. ;)

First off, the composed cloak images and the DVD veil art (if you can call it that) really don’t do this tall microscopic independent film justice. If you’ve seen the earn of the Terrans you might deem this film is comic or only for kids. It’s not. It’s mammoth, arresting, delicate to perceive at and probably the best Sci-Fi movie and bright film I’ve seen in quite some time. This film has an ending that no Pixar or Dreamworks director would touch. It doesn’t leave you with that empty feeling like a lot of provocative films do – at feeling of disconnect. It’s a heart-felt film with grand ideas. As one reviewer said, it made me deem “What would I do it a station like this? ” If you’re petrified about the celebrity voices or stunt casting, don’t. David Disagreeable is perfect and actually quite serious in his role. Evan Rachel Wood makes you care for her Terran character. James Garner is haunting as an elder Terran. Justin Long is comic as usual. Luke Wilson was a surprise as well. The director has created a perfect puny world that I want to go attend to again and I might objective upgrade to Blu-ray for this movie alone. The music is terrific. If you’re a lover of world-building sci-fi and ample arresting films you owe it to yourself to grasp it. I recommend this highly to any fans of bright scif-i movies like Light Years, Extraordinary Planet, Heavy Metal and Titan A.E. unbiased to name a few.

The Battle for Terra was an independently produced 3D animation film that was in theaters in May. It played in some festivals like Tribeca and won Best Enthralling Feature at Ottowa Animation Festival, which is THE animation festival (Oscar nom Persepolis won the year prior) . It got rave reviews from film critics like Ebert and Variety, but was purchased by Lionsgate who didn’t market it properly, hence a disappointing box office for this gusty small attractive film. Which is especially a shame because in 3D it was achingly stunning, definitely the very best exhaust of 3D I’ve seen. Felt like you were swimming lawful along in that other world with pretty creatures like winged blue whales that sprint among the clouds.

Also considerable was the top notch casting. Evan Rachel Wood is especially gracious as the reveal of adorable alien heroine, and Brian Cox haunting as the creepy Bush-like warmonger General. David Inappropriate, one of the the best comedians out there suitable now, gave brief bits of droll relief as moody robot sidekick.

A colossal movie for families, who can be pleased the visuals and drama while giving kids an colorful intro into ethics, environmentalism, ethnocentrism, and more. This is how family movies should be–entertainment that challenges kids to reflect.

Despite the poster, this touching film is powerful more than an action movie. Highly recommended!

If you already fill “Spectacular Spider-Man: Attack of the Lizard,” you can probably skip this – it’s the same thing, only divided into three episodes of the TV series, while “Attack” had the same three episodes edited into a movie. If you don’t have “Attack” or if you want your “Spectacular Spider-Man” collection to be intact as originally aired, this is worth getting.

My son absolutely loves Spider-Man. He has all the Spider-Man DVDs plus more! He saw the series Spectacular Spider-Man on Foxtel and as it has not been released on DVD in Australia, I did a search via Google. When I placed the order with Amazon, my son counted down the days until it was delivered. He now has volumes 1, 2, 3 and 4 of the series and is eagerly awaiting the release of the next volume. I certainly obtain my monies worth of these DVDs!!!! I am one very jubilant and very grateful mum …… Thanks Amazon :-)

I don’t care if the film is historically unsuitable. Errol Flynn may not have been an ideal figure in dependable life but the movies he was in, well, I was raised with the 30′s and 40′s films and his films always gave me a hero to gawk up to and how things should have been done. They inspired me and taught me proper from inferior and how to treat people fairly. Along with my Dad’s guidelines, I was better for it. That’s all I care about, not whether it was historically legal. Mr. Flynn, even in true life, was a chip off the musty block. I care for this film. I grew up with it and it collected gets an emotional rise out of me when I concept it. Its what Custer should have been in my conception and as a young boy watching this for the first time, influenced me for the rest of my life. Errol Flynn was my hero after I saw this and his WWII Burma movie. Its a shame he’s gotten a unpleasant shake from the critics whether now or in the past.

After “The Adventures of Robin Hood,” this is Errol Flynn’s best movie. As illustrious elsewhere, it’s worthless as history. But the casting of Flynn as Custer has a resonance that burns up the mask, and gradual the romanticism one glimpses a portrait of an miserable, self-destructive man who is a hero in spite of himself. Flynn’s farewell scene with Olivia de Havilland is almost unbearably engaging, as if both sensed the real-life parallel and the future awaiting them both. This is a rousing, action-packed movie with unbiased about everything: adventure, comedy and romance… but it’s one of the rare ones that also gets under your skin.

Option B- I Originate YOU go peruse The Rundown.

The Rundown marks the arrival of Dwayne Johnson, A.K.A. “The Rock” as a bona-fide movie star. As Beck, a “Retrieval Expert” who longs for a simpler life as a chef, he displays for the first time on film the humor and charisma that won him “Millions….and MILLIONS!” of fans in the WWE. Dispatced to the South American town of El Dorado (Called Hell Dorado by the locals) to score Travis Walker (Seann William Scott), the wayward son of his shady boss, Beck gets more than he bargained for. He finds Travis easily enough, but getting him home might pose more of a quandary. Not only does Travis not WANT to go home, but local land baron Hatcher (The hilariously nutty Christopher Walken, at his eye-popping best here) won’t LET him go…At least not until Travis finds a mythical golden idol for him. The Rock vs. an army of gun-toting slave-drivers……Situation your bets!

As I said earlier, The Rock is awesome in his role, bringing a mix of self-effacing humor and aloof strength to the mix, balancing out the potentially irritating Scott’s whiny character. Walken is, as always, a joy to observe. His diatribe about The Tooth Fairy is worth the designate of admission alone, and hearing him say “Oompa-Loompa” is obvious to go down in history as one of my all-time well-liked movie lines. Director Peter Berg shows himself to be equally comfortable with comedy and action; He keeps the film attractive along at a brisk breeze, and the action scenes are simply stunning- Not only are the fights choreographed beautifully, but the action is easy to follow, with none of the choppy editing and shaky photography that has ruined many an action movie.

Buy,Download, Or Stream The Rundown! Click Here

The Rundown is unprejudiced what it portrays itself as: A fun buddy report. I had a blast, and so did everyone else in the theater. If you’re in the mood for action, The Rundown is a clear bet. If you smell what I’m cookin’…..

Well, I wasn’t expecting a titanic deal from this film. In fact, I probably wouldn’t have seen it at all if it hadn’t gotten surprisingly superb reviews. The Rock was lovely forgettable in ‘The Scorpion King’, although not poor, but he puts in a vast performance here. Tasked with the retrieval of a wayward son, he ends up in a three (or four) intention hunt for a mysterious golden idol, along the scheme enountering everything from homicidal gold miners to jungle rebels to packs of mad monkeys. It is one silly movie, and the action scenes are gargantuan. Most importantly, the cast has both charisma and quality, and the dialogue isn’t nearly as stilted as you’d inquire of in a typical action film. You can state they all had fun making the movie, perhaps because it was actually filmed in Hawaii. Regardless, you should check this out even if you have doubts about it, because it will fetch you over.

This unique SF Ballet production of the Tchaikovsky warhorse is a dependable treat for dance fans and novices alike. The physical mounting’s sumptuous, witty, and the San Francisco references seem waggish, not forced. There are moments of such lovely beauty in this performance, the music, beget, dance and storytelling combine to transport the viewer instantly to a cheerful, marvelling region of childhood. Would support as an ideal introduction to the NUTCRACKER for young viewers, and there’s plenty for their parents to devour, too. Highly, highly recommended.

We purchased this to prepare our two sons to gaze a local live production of the Nutcracker. We treasure it! The quality of the production is fair pleasing, especially in HD. It makes explaining the account to children considerable easier. (There is also a synopsis on the DVD, which is very salubrious) This production includes the applause of the audience, which helps to perform it feel like a genuine performance and not a peaceful stage station. It is a brilliant, fascinating performance.

The DVD is organized in chapters, which makes it easy to navigate from scene to scene. Our four year stale has asked to peek it again three nights in a row, and we can easily skip from one popular fragment to another. (Just now, he likes the Children’s March and the battle scene the best.) My approved is the Snow scene, which is absolutely lovely.

The storyline doesn’t stray too far from the familiar account, but there are some keen twists. Drosselmeyer is mysterious, but not scary, and we enjoyed watching the opening bit in his clock shop. The stage magic is involving and fun. The young Clara transforms into an older version of herself in Act 2. There are some fun surprises in Act 2, with exiguous twists on the usual dances. Even the Arabian dance, usually my least accepted, is fun to observe.

Whether you are looking for a first Nutcracker, or you want to add to a collection, this is a sizable performance to select. (Parents and teachers: The San Francisco Ballet has a extraordinary teaching guide on their website, with additional background and activities.)

I don’t quite understand what is so gross about Baby Galileo. Reviewers are saying how aweful it was, but are giving no explanation as to why, so I’m going to account for why it worked for me and my child.

I was extremely tickled with the Baby Galileo video. My daughter is three and a half years broken-down and soaks in anything she sees. Although she is on the older waste of the suggested ages for these videos, she calm is learning from them and enjoying them. This video was a large scheme for her to learn the general ideas about the sky. The video opens with puppets, which are a trademark in Julie Clark’s videos. There are narrations by children, and 15 different pieces of classical music ranging from Claire De Lune to Twinkle Twinkle Small Star. There are several chapters in the video introducing a novel concept- those being the sky, the sun, the clouds, the stars, the moon, the planets, the galaxy and dwelling. There are actual pictures and video of the sun, moon and others while they are supplemented with toys, graphics and music that go along with the sky/space theme.

I am an early childhood educator, and I watch these videos as being some of the most developmentally appropriate videos out there for children to behold. The video expresses many subjects, textures, colors and most of all, attractive classical music to soothe your child and spark their interest and attention. I’m not quite clear why these videos haven’t worked for other parents, but they’ve been successful in my family and many others that I know. I highly recommend the Baby Einstein collection- at least try them, especially Baby Galileo.

First a brief designate on the Baby Einstein series, and then my specific opinions about Baby Galileo. My wife and I are very careful about both the amount and the tell of any television that my 17-month-old son views. Our Baby Einstein videos (we have around 8) are among only six or seven shows or videos that play on our TV sets when our son is awake. Other parents have already mentioned one assist of the Baby Einstein videos: That they can give you 30 minutes of worry-free time to prepare meals or obtain dressed while your children remain glued to the residence. However, I’d like to mention my beget celebrated wait on of the series: Quality time with my son. When I save on one of these videos, my son crawls up into my lap and remains there for the whole present. (Any of you with 17-month-old boys probably know how rare it is for your son to employ 30 whole minutes sitting in the same state.) During the program, he points to objects he recognizes (gesturing the signs for words he knows), laughs out loud during the puppet shows, and mimics the children he sees in the videos. Throughout the video he looks to me for acknowledgement and confirmation, and I try to inform him the signs and words for things he hasn’t learned yet. These videos have proven to me that when veteran sparingly and wisely, television can be a grand learning and family-building tool.

As for Baby Galileo, this one is clearly my son’s approved. Baby MacDonald and Neighborhood Animals are probably tied for second position, where Language Nursery and Baby Bach appear to appeal to him the least. The exact puppets of Baby Galileo and his mom are probably the best and most detailed puppets I have yet seen in the series. They both have challenging limbs and are very expressive- and they’re definitely my son’s accepted fraction of the video. He also enjoys the limited clips of other babies and the many images of the sun and moon. I must admit, this is MY common of the bunch too, not unprejudiced because of the music selection, but yeah, I also dig the puppets. I have a single criticism of this particular video: The segment about the moon features a very uncommon rendition of Debussy’s Claire De Lune. It was so different from the Claire De Lune that I know and cherish that I actually view it was honest a sound-a-like, perhaps for licensing reasons. Basically, the main melody of the section is almost completely absent. However, the liner notes for the disc do in fact list Debussy as the composer. My wife believes it was an intentional adjustment, because the music in Baby Einstein videos is supposedly “designed for cramped ears.” I don’t bewitch it, but overall I contemplate this is a huge video.

The first two episodes on this disk are mainly fair introductions to the characters. Rosette is a young girl whose first instinct is to rush blindly into a position, guns blazing with blessed bullets known as Sacreds, even if the residence involves a demon that could suck her soul dry. The third and fourth episodes introduce Azamaria, a young girl who witnessed a visitation by the Virgin Mary. While she has the power to heal others, she also suffers from a curse of abominable luck. Her other drawback is that demons and devil worshippers can way from the power of God through her. So at the moment she is being kept a prisoner by the bad Ricardo and his demon servant, Viscount Lerajie, and it’s Rosette’s and Chrono’s mission to rescue her.

This was a obliging dvd. The animation and all-around sight of the series is first rate. The Japanese screech acting is profitable while the English dub seems to feature the same kid utter actors you can regain on most ADV disks. Frankly, I’m sick of the same voices all the time. I consider some religious conservatives will win the series subject matter very offensive. I mean at one point, Rosette, who is the equivalent of a nun, is waving her butt in Chrono’s face, and demon’s heads are blown off etc. You’ve got to win into yarn that there are very few Christians in Japan, so they’re not as uptight about it. Lighten up and savor the reveal!

There’s a lot of extras on this disk. There’s two installments of “Azamaria’s Extra Classes” in which the character explains some of the support anecdote. There are even more features about the background of the series, Producion Sketches, Smart Openings/Closings, Unusual Japanese Openings, and commentaries by the American exclaim actors that played Rosette and Chrono.

I rented the first disk of the series with trepidation, but my curiousity regarding a nun with a gun (to fight wrong, of course) peaked my interest, and I was rewarded well! Definitely something to seek, whether you are religious or not. Although less than 1% of the Japanese population is Christian, the creators certainly achieve a lot of research into the making of this, with several well-behaved Biblical references (some legendary, some valid) . The characters are a hoot, with young nun Rosetta Christopher, who is 16, energetic, and slightly destructive in her enthusiasm, the more cautious (devil) Chrono, and Azmaria, the troubled soprano who is a holy instrument of God. Along with Father Remington (shapely and marvelous natured), the mysterious Joshua (Rosetta’s sick younger brother, now eager with devils!), and another equally mysterious Gem Witch, the sage and the characters will plan you along. Certainly a curious study.

Love these classics, especially Unfavorable Plain II. Was overjoyed to add these to my Blu-ray collection. The transfer is also respectable.
